Goldcrest Post New York: DI

In our primary DI theatre the filmmaker can evaluate an accurate pre-visualization of their films on a large screen with an NEC 800C DCI compliant 2K projector at every stage: editorial, visual effects and color correction. The Quantel Pablo is resolution independent and is capable of supporting the most complicated mixed media projects. This gives directors the creative comfort to complete their film while experiencing the high resolution, image size and frame rate of the final intended display. Our second DI theatre is designed for conforms, broadcast grading to 709 projection, and 3D editorial, depth and color grading. Goldcrest also offers “Dimensionalization” Services converting 2D projects into 3D.

The theatres are operated by Finishing Artists Peter Heady, Moritz Fortmann and John Dowdell. Our Third DI Theater is slated for completion in Spring 2011.

Goldcrest provides the best Film scanning technology available. 35mm, 4 perf, 3 perf, and 2 perf film can be scanned at 3K subsampled to 2K, 6K subsampled to 4K, or 2K as the project needs dictate. S-16mm/16mm film is scanned at 3K subsampled to 2K. The Arriscan captures the full 16 stops of dynamic range of today's motion picture films. Each frame receives two red, two green, and two blue exposures. These exposures are melded together to capture the full D-max/D-min of the original image.

Goldcrest has also licensed Arri's Digital Ice technology. Utilizing the infrared sensor built into the Arriscan, Kodak's Digital Ice creates a bit-map of any dust on the film, and automatically fills in the missing information from the surrounding pixels. This technology minimizes the amount of further dustbusting typically required to meet today's zero fault tolerance in the creation of the film and video deliverables.
